Degree to a student who completes satisfactorily the tutorials to which he or she is assigned and both submits and discusses successfully a written thesis. A student needs a minimum of sixty (60) earned credits in order to be awarded the Associate of Arts Degree. The regular academic workload is at least two (2) tutorials per semester. Normally, tutorials meet three hours per week, per academic semester.
Apostolic Catechetical Diploma
A 1983 Vatican Rescript has empowered Magdalen College to award the Apostolic Catechetical Diploma. A student who completes all the catechetical tutorials, with a letter grade of C or better, may be awarded the Diploma.
Enrollment
A candidate for enrollment in the Program of Studies must submit to the Admissions Office a completed application, which includes the Letter of Application stating the reasons the candidate desires to be enrolled in the Program of Studies. Since the primary criterion for enrollment in the Program of Studies is the wholehearted willingness of a candidate to participate in the Program, the prospective student should consider the Letter of Application very seriously.
A candidate is required to visit Magdalen College and, if possible, participate in the Program of Studies for two days. The on-campus visit concludes with a personal interview with an Admissions Office representative.
Administrative Information
Non-Discrimination Policy
Magdalen College does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, age, religion, or national or ethnic origin in any of her admission policies.
Campus Visits
A prospective student should receive firsthand knowledge of any institution of higher learning that he or she wishes to attend. This is true especially in the case of Magdalen College. Therefore, prospective students are required to visit the College, unless an exception is made by the Director of Admissions.
At a Visitor Weekend, a prospective student is provided with accommodations and meals without charge. The only expense incurred is transportation to and from his or her home. He or she must be attired properly for tutorials, dining, and liturgical activities according to the dress code of Magdalen College.
The parents of a prospective student are also invited to visit the campus, to observe tutorials, and to partake of meals.
Residency
Enrolled students are required to reside on the campus of Magdalen College. Exceptions to the residency requirement are made by the President only.
Transfer Students
Magdalen College requires an applicant to a degree program to enter the Program of Studies as a freshman student.
Some prospective students may have completed one, two, or even three years of undergraduate work elsewhere. Despite good academic records at other colleges or universities, transfer students relinquish an advanced standing in order to enter the Program of Studies at its ordained beginning–the freshman year. Because some exceptions are allowed, all interested persons should apply.
Applicants from Outside the United States
The US Department of Homeland Security, through its Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services, grants to Magdalen College the right of accepting foreigners as students. A prospective student must follow the regular procedure for admission and also provide evidence of competency in the English language.
